What did progressives do to regulate businesses in the United States?- Clayton Anti-Trust Act (1914) broke up monopolies. Labor unions started to come to be, strikes, boycotss, and picketing also became legal. Federal Trade Commission was established in 1914 which investigated companies for monopolistic practices. All this was under Woodrow Wilson.18. What did local government do to reform itself during the Progressive Era?-A city council and manager would run the cities instead of political machines. Rule by commission started, as well. Reform governors and mayors also were a part in cities.Wilson passed the Underwood Tariff in 1913, which cut tariff rates drastically for the first time in Civil War. He led us during World War I. He did not help African Americans and allowed segregation to come to Washington D.C.The Republican party split into old-guard republicans and progressive republicans, which Taft ran for. Teddy Roosevelt ran for the Progressive Party, or the Bull Moose Party. Wilson ran for the democratic party, so he would win for sure because the Republicans' vote was split between TR and Haft. Wilson won the election of 1912.Chapter 10, Americans Claims an EmpireImperialism is strong countries taking control of weaker countries. In 1900, Most powerful Countries1. England 4. U.S.2. France 5.
