Went over US map. Semester test questions. Climate Change: climate-is what you know, long term weather patterns, President is going to have a call to action because man-made impacts are going to change weather, sea-levels will rise, heat waves/droughts, more storms, ice free summers in poles, most temperature change has happened in last 30 to 40 years, having public awareness campaign, republicans are not as environmentally friendly because tough regulations will hurt businesses.

Northern Mariana Island: east of Philippines, got control 1976 from Japan, became US Territory, has one seat in house(can't vote, but can give opinion), volcanic islands. Guam: took in 1944 after losing it to Japan, December 10, 1898, by Treaty of Paris. Spain later tried to take over, but we regained control. They are organized, unincorporated territory(don't have all constitution rights there) of the US still today. Located in Pacific ocean above Australia. Philippines: got control in year after Spanish-American war (1898), we had a fight for it, paid Spain 20 million for this, had a war with Filipino people, Japan took over in 1942, regained in 1945, is independent today(no longer territory). US Virgin Islands: originally named by Columbus(1493), got them in 1917, purchased for 25 million in gold from Denmark, an effort to improve military position, we still have it as a US territory. American Samoa: 1899-1904, Germany and us were fighting for control, eventually split, made treaty with Germany to split it, officially a US Territory.
