Americans and Philippines went on a death march in May of 1942. Navajo Code talkers are one of the reasons why we won WW2. A reason why the other countries didn’t know what we were doing because of the Navajo Code Talkers. James Doolittle was a famous pilot. The Battle of Coral Sea was one of the major battles during the war and was fought by airplanes. Chester Nimitz was the admiral of the Navy. He has an air craft carrier named after him today. The Battle of Midway was a true turning point. The Japanese navy was never the same of this battle. We started the slow track of island hopping after this battle, pushing the Japanese back to Japan. Guadalcanal was another major island of island hopping. It was kind of the first island. The Japanese started using Kamikazes towards the end of the war since they were definitely losing. The goal was to change the tide of the war back into the Japanese favor.
The Battle of Leyte Gulf was in the Philippines. It was won by the United States. Japan’s navy was almost completely destroyed after the battle. Japanese Destroyers were sunk during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. MacArthur made a return to the Philippines after being gone for over two years. He wanted to make sure this day would go down as a great day in history. He returned on September 15, 1944. Iwo Jima is the most popular battle in our history. Over 6,000 US deaths were on this little island. Okinawa was the biggest attack of islands. J Robert Oppenheimer was a scientist. There was no airplane strong enough to hold an atomic bomb. They designed a plane specific for the bomb. The Uranium 235 bomb was nicknamed “little boy”. Due to the bombing, some people got cancer and other sicknesses from all the radiation. The Nagasaki bombing used a bomb called “fat man”. The plane that carried it was called the Bockscar. Germany would be split into four different zones in result to the Yalta Conference. The GI Bill of Rights was to help the members of the Armed Forces adjust to civilian like after separation from service. Also, to give those who cannot afford a high education the change to get one. Also, to aid in the retention of personnel in the Armed Forces.
