Nick presented and his topic was . Many Americans were afraid of communism, 100,000 Americans claimed to be apart of a communist party. The House Un-American Activities Committee was trying to get people to join the military, or become communist through movies and propaganda. They didn’t want movies promoting communism and put the idea in Americans heads to all be equal and overthrow the government. The people were sent to jail. There was a black list of people who they thought were communists or linked to communist people.

Kelsey went next and her topic is the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was an argument between Cuba, the US, and the Soviet Union. The Bay of Pigs is one of the causes of the Cuban Missile Crisis. This was the closest the US ever came to a nuclear war. Cuba had nuclear warheads facing the US, we had missiles in Turkey facing towards the Soviet Union. JFK ordered SU to dismantle the warheads. US wanted to quarantine Cuba, used our ships so nothing could go in or out of Cuba. Came to an agreement, they got rid of their warheads and so did the US in Turkey. The US agreed not to invade Cuba again.

Kody went next and he had McCarthy. Some thought he was a great speaker and he got noticed his first three years in the senate. Was elected in 1952, he said that the communist were trying to take over the government. McCarthyism was the attacks on suspects who he thought were communists. Some days he said he had 57 peoples name, the next 81, then 205. Even if he said these people were communists he had no evidence. He claimed that the Democratic party was guilty of 20 years of treason for allowing communists into the government. In 1954 he made accusations against the US army. He lost a lot of support after this. In 1957 he died of alcoholism and he died a lonely man. He was a senator so he could get away with slander.
