Today we did write-to-learn #10. We went over the countries on the map that we've learned so far, and soon will be adding the Carribean to the mix! We reviewed a bit on Saddam Hussein and why Iraq invaded Kuait. In the 1980s the Kurds where put to death by gas chambers by Hussein. No-Fly Zone is where the UN flew through every day for a decade to make through Iraq had no military in the areas. Saddam did not like IAEA (weapons inspectors) and he would play games on them/set rules/kick them out. The nuclear powers of the world are United States, North Korea, Russia, China, Great Britian, and France. North Korea, India, and Pakastan have openly tested nuclear weapons and have admitted they have them. Israel is highly believed to have nuclear weapons but never come out and confirm they do. We also did some more blog discussions. Isaac and Ana's topic was why we went to war with Iraq in 2003. George Bush and UK's Prime Minister said that Iraq had WMDs. They sent out a signal that he had WMDs so Iran would back off, even though they really didn't. It backfired on Saddam, and to an extent, cost him his life. It's hard to leave Iraq right now because there's a 'civil war' going on between a few ethnic groups. You can't get a country to get along when the ethnic groups don't agree. Brittany and Cheryl's topic was what role the UN played in the war. They both did the wrong war on their topic. The last topic we covered was Dani's - key moments in the Bush Administration.
