Today is my momma's birthday. (: We continued going over the end of Mr. Bruns powerpoint and worked on the test questions.

Treaty of Versailles
-know what it specifically did and how it helped lead to WWII

The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that happened at the end of World War One. It ended the state of war between Germany and Allied Powers, the Big Four. It was signed on June 28th of 1919. That date was exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. If you wonder how it got its name, it got it because it was signed at the Versailles Palace which is near the town of Paris.

The Treaty of Versailles required Germany to accept a responsibility for causing war. The three most important politicians were David Lloyd George, Georges Clemenceau, and Woodrow Wilson. Although, there were hundreds of other people that were involved in the Treaty.

League of Nations
-define and explain its weaknesses
The
League of Nations also took control of German’s overseas colonies and to keep world peace. Germany’s army was reduced and their army was not allowed any tanks and an air force. League of Nations failed as an organization because 1.) The US never joined. 2.) It did not have a military force to do what it said.

Know the basics about the following countries:
-How did WWI/Treaty of
Versailles impact this country
-How did this country change in the 1920's/1930’s (includes leader coming to power and their goals).
-What was/were this countries military strategy in the 1920's and 1930’s?
-How was this country involved on WWII (what alliance did they belong to, how were they involved within the war)

Germany - The Treaty put full blame on Germany and said that they started the war and it would make them pay war reparations to their countries. The Nazi party was also known as the Weimer republic in 1919. It was a weak government that was run by Jews. There were many flaws in the system but it had benefits. The Weimer republic lasted only 14 years. Hitler came to power when Von Hindenburg died. He became the chancellor.

The military strategy was to improve use of new weapons. Blitzkrieg is not fighting in the trenches. They brought in airplanes and no countries expected it so they were all getting overrun by Germany's Blitzkrieg style. Germany was to aggressor to WW2. Without Germany, they would not have been in war in Europe and the war would have been won more easily and much smaller. They were overrunning countries left and right and their Blitzkrieg style was unstoppable.

Germany was divided into four separate zones. The four separate zones were later brought back together into two zones, East Germany and West Germany. The Nazi party was not strong enough and the party fell apart. Hitler escaped execution and trial by committing suicide. Hitler did alot of positive things for Germany; he rebuilt the Germany in order for them to be able to defend them. Hitler started small and then grew to destroy Jews more and more.

Italy - Benito Mussolini grew up in a Catholic family, his father was an atheist. He was more like his father. He was expelled out of Catholic school because he stabbed someone with a knife. Mussolini became the fascist dictator of Italy by King Manuel. King Victory Manuel did not want Italy to become communist. Fascism is where they control you but do not take over the businesses and have a strong military.

Soviet Union - Joseph Stalin was the leader before and during World War Two. Soviet Union was trying to stay out of the conflict; they really didn’t want to get involved with the war. They lost land in result to Treaty of Versailles. All of the countries bordered the ocean or sea. Because they turned communist, they lost land and dropped out of the war. The Soviet Union had a Communist government. Their leader came to power by being chosen as the new leader when the previous leader died.

Stalin wanted to regain Russia’s land after WWI. He wanted to take over the world and build a strong military. He attempted to spread the ideas of communism, increase the food supply and raw material production. Factories started making military weapons. They were trying to stay out of the war but were very prepared incase that had to be in the war.

Vladimir Lenin was the first leader of the Soviet Union. He helped getting them out of World War One. The theory goes like this; the vast majority in the country is common people. The rich people dominate over the common people. This is the theory of communism. Lenin died within a couple of years and Stalin took over as the leader.

Japan - Their military strategy was to attack basically any where you can get to. Japan tried to make China roll over by murdering a large amount of people. They attacked blindly, which means they did it so no other countries could see where they were attacking from and could not fight back. Japan bombed the United States on August 15, 1945. The United States in return bombed Japan on August 9, 1945. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7th, 1941. Germany and Italy were Japan’s main allies.

The Treaty of Versailles gave Japan more land, but Japan was fully happy. They wanted some Chinese land but they didn’t get any. They had a Constitutional Monarchy government. They had an Emperor as a leader. HiroHito became the leader because he was highly liked. Hideki Tojo was in the Imperial Japanese army. He was essentially in charge of the military. He was appointed the army minister. The main goals were to get more natural resources, like iron from China. They also tried getting coal and copper.

Great Britain - Forced Germany to concede territory to Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. Forced German Nations to accept complete responsibility for initiating WWI. Germany was liable for all material damages. Germany was forbidden to maintain an air force. Great Britain has a Fascist government that stressed nationalism and the interest of the state about those of individuals.

France

China - There were two main governments. The communist party was led by Mao Zedong. And the Nationalist party was les by Chiang Kai-Shek. The leader, Chiang Kai-Shek came to power because he was a close ally to Sun Yat-sen's the leader before Chiang.Whan Sun Yat-sen died; Chiang took his place in 1925. The Treaty did not do a huge amount to China. Germany had land in China, and the Treaty took that land and gave it to Japan.

China was in a civil war with itself. The Kuomintang leader died in 1925. China did not get the land that they wanted back and it was given to Japan. China was in a revolution. Chiang wanted to destroy communist and him lead from 1911 to 1948. He led to purges. Mao fought with Guerilla tactics and the nationalist was well as Japanese. He led China from 1949 to 1976. The nationalist wanted to take over and not let China become communist. The communist wanted to make the country communist. They both wanted to get rid of Japan.

China fought the Japanese in 1931 at Manchuria. Japanese invaded China in 1937. The Japanese took over Nahjinj the capital of Kuomintang. China had been at war with the Japanese for 8 years by 1939. The United Kingdom, Russia, U.S, Liberia, and Greece were China’s allies and they belonged to the allied powers. The main government of China had lost all of their resources during the Japan invasion. A lack of morals and corruption also had an effect on the economy. Natural resources were depleting because of the fighting. China lost 3.22 million soldiers

Hitler's Treatment of the Jews
Hitler grew up with a lot of failures. His main passion did not work out. The one time he thought he fit in, was when he joined the army. He found out that he can speak and make people believe what he was saying. His closest ally of World War Two was Mussolini. His Nazi thugs and he tried to over throw the government, and he did not succeed. In result, he was put into prison and that is where he wrote his book called Mein Kampf. Hitler made people believe that the Jews were all of their problems. Hitler used it to describe his perfect race. It was misused by the Nazis to mean a so-called "master race.” The Nuremburg Laws of 1935 made Jews second class citizens and removed their basic civil rights. It established a membership in the Jewish race as being anyone who either considered themselves Jewish or had three or four Jewish grandparents. People with one ot two Jewish grandparents were considered to the mixed race. It eventually changed to anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent was at risk in Nazi Germany. Jews were not allowed to marry another Jew. Italy invaded Ethiopia in Africa once again.

Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor was an attack by Japanese that took place on December 7 in 1941. Between Japan and the United States, there had been some differences. U.S. had stopped sending supplies over to Japan because they had started attacking and invading other countries.

Until the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States thought their status with Japan was in decent terms. Japan had been "lying" and making up false statements that would make the U.S. believe things were different. Instead of Japan attacking the United States, the United States figured Japan would attack the Philippines before attacking them. Japan wanted to get back on the U.S. for the supply situation. So, on the morning of December 7, 183 planes containing a mass amount of weapons were on a mission. That was the first wave of planes. After the first wave completed their job, the second wave was on its way to demolish anything that was still standing.

POWERPOINT

Blitzkrieg- Main force links up with other units encircling and cutting off the enemy. The airplanes attack to soften up the enemy, and then the tanks and such. Great Britain and France finally decided to stand up and take control on Hitler.
