Today Mr. Bruns did his power point. He said that our test would be next week sometime. Vladimir Lenin was the first leader of the Soviet Union, he helped get them out of WWI. The practice of communism is where the government is in complete control. Lenin preached that the theory of communism is that because more of the people are common and the rich people control everything, the common people should have more say, and everyone would be equal. When Lenin died Stalin took over.

Mr. Bruns said that for the test we should talk about the countries that came about after the Treaty of Versailles. The new countries were Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Finland, and Lithuania are a few. Germany lost land to counties surrounding them and they lost their colonies overseas and in Africa.

Their military was dismantled. Their army was reduced to 100,000 men, no air force, no submarines and only 6 ships. They owed $33 billion dollars overall. They also had to take complete responsibility for starting the war. The League of Nations formed to make world peace. The League of Nations failed because the U.S. didn’t join. It didn’t have a military force to enforce what it said.

The Weimar Republic was the new government set up in Germany after WWI, a democracy. Hitler blamed the Weimar Republic for Germany losing all their land and colonies, and agreeing to pay $33 billion dollars. He blamed EVERYTHING on them and he also said that the Weimar Republic was made up of Jews. It failed because they had never had a democracy before, they had lost everything under the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler tried to overthrow the government and tried to use the democracy to get to power.

Benito Mussolini didn’t like going to catholic school and he got kicked out when he was young for stabbing someone with a pencil. He was a school teacher then wanted to become fascist dictator of Italy. King Victor Immanuel gave power to Mussolini because he thought it would be easier and he was worried about the Communists. Fascism was a type of government where they controlled everything but they didn’t take over businesses and they believed in a strong military.

The Washington Naval Conference was all about reducing Naval size. The countries were G.B., France, U.S., Japan, and Italy. The Open Door policy allowed free trade with China for all countries. They realized if they build up their military it creates more war, and it only pertained to battle ships.

Adolf Hitler had a hard life as a child, his father beat him. He realized that he was a good speeker and people would listen to him.
