Today in class we did some more presentations again and again. First we are doing United States.

United States

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

Didn’t really have much say in the treaty because they wanted to do Wilson’s fourteen points and they weren’t really have physical damage to the country. They basically gave in and compromised halfway between theirs and France’s. They didn’t gain land or anything but returned to isolationist after establishing the League of Nations. They didn’t sign the Treaty of Versailles.
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years (1919-1938)?
They had a democracy and returned to isolationist. They government left businesses alone and the economy was great, Prohibition was over. The Great Depression set in. They passed neutrality acts that wouldn’t trade guns or wartime goods to other countries and wouldn’t let people give money to other countries. Made it ok for other countries to come and pay cash to bring these goods back on their own ships so ours weren’t in danger.

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
FDR was the President during the war. He went to Harvard and became a Senator. He became the Assistant Secretary of the Navy after his polio battle. He became governor of New York after he ran for Vice President. He was elected President and served 4 terms. He wasn’t going to run but they nominated him and he continued to serve after two terms. He died in his fourth term.

4. How did this leader change their country (for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
He started the Fireside chats and developed the New Deal to get us out of the Depression.

5. What were the goals of the leader?
He wanted to get us out of the Great Depression, develop a stable economy, and to destroy the Axis Powers.

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?
We were isolationist and we signed a bunch of treaties to stay out of the wars.

7. What role did they play in WWII?
United States didn’t start in the war but Japan brought us in and then we fought against them in the Pacific. We eventually dropped the two atom bombs on them. They supported the Allies with weapons and ammo. We made thousands of trucks, jeeps, and planes that we sent to the Allies and that is basically why they won the war.

8. Who were their allies in WWII?
Allied Powers like France, Great Britain, USSR, China, Canada, and many more.

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

Stimulated the economy and helped end the Great Depression. There wasn’t a lot of physical damage to the country and military factories sprung up all over. We became one of the two major powers of the war.
