Today we are going to watch a movie about what made the 1920’s roaring, exciting, and fun. It was the jazz age. Everybody wanted the newest alcohol and movies. There was a shift from coal to electricity. A lot of new items were being mass produced such as the model t. the time was cut from 12 hours to 2 hours. Henry Ford started paying 5 dollars an hour which made everyone want to work there. This made other companies raise their wages too. A buy now pay later basic was outspreading over the country. By 1930 Americans owned 8 out of 10 of the world’s vehicles. Booming towns sprung up everywhere. Everyone wanted to move to the cities instead of living in the “boring country.” Many people thought the car was anti religious because people would go for a Sunday strole instead of going to church and it changed the dating status because boys could take their women out for supper and stuff. Women were the biggest incline. Many were finishing high school and going to college, which wasn’t allowed earlier. Many women started wearing looser clothes. They called these women the flappers. A lot of people didn’t profit from electricity like farmers because it took so long to run lines out to them. Advertising industry came of a lot of value. People used women to advertise which made more women want to look better. Women also gained right to vote. Simple affordable fashions could be bought in and department store. Many advertisements made you look at yourself and think that you weren’t beautiful so that’s why many girls bought cosmetics. Movies were on the rise. It brought the fantasies to life. A lot of small towns had drive up movie theatres. Movies seamed to re define beauty and masculine. Jazz was the biggest rising music in the 20’s. Jazz was born in New Orleans and steadily moved north. African Americans were on the rise. Many expressed themselves without fear or shame. Many speakeasies played black music. White musicians also took up jazz and blues. Jazz was thought to be evil and seducing Americans which led to law breakers. January 1, 1920 was the start to prohibition. Many people still drank though. Ku Klux Klan accused Catholics and hated them. By 1923 the clan controlled three state governments. The nation was ultimately splitting in two. 1926 brought boxing to a spotlight. Jack Demsy was the best known fighter of the times and rep small town values. The 20’s also brought many sports to fame. The best known athlete was Babe Ruth. The greatest of all heroes was a farm boy by the name of Charlse Linburg who flew all the way around the world by himself. Weak foundations led to the great depression. The stock market crashed in 1929. This was the worst in the nations history.
