Today we watched a movie about the 1920's and 30's. Mr Bruns gave us one question to answer about the movie. What made the 1920's roaring, exciting, and fun?During the 20's people putting their morals aside and. We were going through a third industrial revolution during the twenties. Electrical appliances, wall sockets, automobiles, electicity, and motion pictures were starting to interest people and become more popular. American was going from a rural to an urban civilization. People were buying on credit and it allowed people to buy like crazy. The 20's was one of the wealthiest times in our American history. The car changed American habits majorly. Because of cars people would go on a Sunday drive instead of going to church. There were drive in movie theatres, drive in banks, ect. The car also gave younger people the freedom to get away from their parents and go out.Flappers were women in the 20's who basically rebeled against what had been expected from women in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Women didn't wear tight corsets anymore, they wore baggy clothing and cut their hair shorter. They attended speakiseas, smoke, partied, and even drove cars. The flappers were really known for their hard working attitude. They dated around and had more than one man. The 19th amendment allowed women to finally vote. Advertising took off in the twenties. Advertisments changed the way people thought and bought. They persuaded people to think they needed things like, doedorant, lotion, cosmetics, ect.Everyone was starting to go to the movies in the twenties. Movies brought things to life. They mocked the previous traditions that families and womens had just a decade before, they were very risque. The stars of the movies were role models to everyone, living in lavish huge houses, traveling everywhere, and just being so beautiful and talented. The twenties were known as the jazz age. Some people didn't like the beats and swinging sounds of jazz music. People thought that jazz was persuading people and promoting inapropriate actions. Blacks during this time were singing the blues. They would sing about how hard it was being black, heartache, or just how life is hard in general. In 1925 in Dayton, Tennessee a teacher was arrested for teaching evolution in schools. Some people still wanted christianity to be only what kids were taught.During the twenties sports really took off. baseball, boxing, football, track, and tennis. It was really the golden age for sports. Lucky Lynde was the first man to fly by himself all the way around the world. He truely became a big heroic icon. The prosperity of the 20's was built on a very uneven foundation and little did people know they would soon face the biggest depression of our American history.
