today we watched a movie on the 1920s. when buy now pay later was the way of life. they allowed people to keep a tab or so when they bought items. more lived in urban areas rather than rural. auto street cars and trains were the big way of transportation. the auto mobile let cities expand in size. cars being anti-religious? some believed so because more people went on sunday drives rather than church. women opportunities became bigger. they rebelled a lot and were called 'flappers'. the women did a lot of the stuff the men did thanks to the 19th amendment.manufacturers realized that women decided what to buy and not the men. radio was very popular and became a way to advertise. advertising is something you needed when you need people to buy your products. there was a lot of false advertisement. "lets turn every armpit into a 'charm' pit". for women the big thing in advertisement was make a woman feel guilty. are your hands soft enough for you husband? is he gonna look at his little secretary in the office? movies and photos allowed women to have role models and a look to reach for. movies brought fantasies to life.all the people mimicked what they would see in movies. by 1920s, movies were the life of all americans. jazz was also a big thing. it was fast, loud, joyous. by early 1920s, harlem was the biggest community of blacks.many young white would drink bootleg booze. whites also took up jazz with the blacks. the music of america was transformed. a big fear of law breakers came along with all the alcohol. the 18th amendment prohibited alcohol. the big thing was illegal sale of alcohol or bootlegging.WWI released the racism of others who arent white. KKK developed. in 1923, they had 5 million members. this eventually led up to a war of cultures.
