Question of the day:What made the roaring twenties exciting?There were all sorts of new technologies being developed such as electrical appliances, automobiles, and movies.During the Roaring Twenties there were a lot of new developments to technology. Many were buying automobiles. Now eight out of ten people owned a car. For the first time in history more people lived in the cities rather than in the country. To get to work they were taking trains and buses. Grocery stores in small towns were closing because everyone would just hop in their automobiles and drive to a better store in the city.Women changed the most during this time. They were going to high school, and college. They got the right to vote.They were becoming engaged in sports, and started wearing loose clothing instead of the traditional corset. Cosmetics and new hairstyles were a huge thing for women. There were now magazines, beauty pageants, and movies to manipulate women to look beautiful for their husbands. New household appliances helped reduce the time it took to wash clothing and doing other chores.Advertising grew greatly. They could promote their products through magazines, radios, and all sorts of media. Everyone mimicked what they saw in movies. The actions people saw in the movies became a major influence in how they looked or behaved.New types of music played a big part of the roaring twenties. Jazz moved to the big cities. African Americans moved to the cities and rallied for better treatment. They were very proud of who they were and were extremely artistic. There were many clubs for people to perform their talents in music and dancing. Not everyone was pleased with the new types of music and movies. Some thought jazz was evil and was influenced on people. Drinking was banned but many broke the law and did it anyways.World War I, made Americans fear foreigners. There was the Klu Klux Klan that was a foreign hate group. Soon it claimed 5 million members. Then the U.S reduced the number of foreigners allowed into the U.S. After a while there was a war of cultures.Boxing became a new popular sport. Patrick Dempsey was a well known and very talented boxer during this. But he was final defeated. Football, golf, baseball and other various sports also became popular. Babe Ruth and LuckyLindy brought a sense of belonging to the people.October of 1929, the stock market crashed. This was the end of the party.
