Kyle did Marcus Garvy. He raised black pride during the twenties. He was one of the first outspoken African American to raise black awareness.
Austin picked bloody Sunday- 600 black people attacked by police. March by black people. He was supposed to be a peaceful march.
Dasja did Thurgood Marshal- lawyer which was rare because he was black. He helped make some constitution in some African countries. He was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court.
James did his topic on malcom x- born in Omaha. Black rights speaker. Both parents we gone by the time he was thirteen. He was told by whites that he couldn’t be good. He was also assassinated by Islam nation.
Makyla talked about lynching- it was when white people would hang blacks by a rope and noose. This took off after civil war because south lost their slaves.
Bre did stewardess of pearl harbor- the black people couldn’t serve. They could only do the little things and not shoot any guns.
Austin did his on booker t Washington- he was born a slave. His mom was a servant to a tobacco plantation home. His job was to do small jobs on the farm. But mostly he carried books for the plantation owner’s daughter. He was then taken up by a nice lady in town. He then became a civil rights activist.
Andrea did hers on Stockly Stanford Church-Chill Carmicheal- he essentially was another black activist during the 50’s. first leader of the student novelist coordinating committee. Then came the honorary black minister of the Black Panther party.
Nelson did MLK Taylor also did MLK but she didn’t do as well as Nelson because she just said basically what nelson said and then added a couple things.
Cody did his on the Omaha race riot- talked about a bunch of white folks trying to get at a black guy that raped a girl
Matt did his about Collin Powel- born to Jamaican immigrants. He was a captain during the Vietnam War.
We got done with our blog discussions and moved to our presentations again. Kyla is going to finish her presentation.

What was the new deal (1st and 2nd )
Three R’s of the new deal- relief recovery and reform. Relief was the immediate action taken to halt the economic decline. Recovery included the Agriculture Adjustment Act Public Works Home Owners Land Corps. Reform included the Soil Conservation Act, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Social Security Administration.
Why was FDR upset with the U.S. Supreme Court and what did he do to try and solve this issue
How did the new deal help:
Unemployment – PWA reduced unemployment by giving new jobs like construction jobs like schools hospitals dams subways city halls- CWA
Farmers- the RFC aided the farmers. Many farming organizations got loans by the rfc. the loans were giving out so farmers could get back on their feet and hopefully be able to pay the loans back.
Factory workers/labor-
Young people- the NYA focused on the youth. it gave young men and women jobs in school so they could learn and make money at the same time so they wouldn't drop out to make money for their family.
Banks/ business- the RFC was a bailout system to help us get back on our feet. FSA, was the first major federal legislation to regulate the sale of securities. Required investors to receive information and prohibited fraud in the sales in securities. FSA still exists today.
Home owners- the USHA gave jobs to low income people to build homes. It led to the PWA
Elderly- SSA- took out taxes from your income that you would receive when you retire.

• Public Works Administration- helped with the unemployed
• Civil works administration- deals with helping people get jobs created on November 8 1933. Dealt with construction of schools, and created about 4 million jobs but only lasted about 5 months ended in March 31.
