Today we went through presentations. I learned that the Reconstruction Finance Corporation was passed July 21, 1932 by Herbert Hoover. It gave 2 billion dollars to aid local and state government. It loaned money to small businesses and banks to give them employment and to give out loans and such so they could create jobs. One thing they did was make dams. Hoover believed helping businesses so they could do the rest by themselves. The National Labor Relations Act was passed July 5, 1933. It prohibited unfair labor practices. It also allowed employees to join labor unions. In 1945, 35% of the work force was in unions. It was successful in its actions and until 1947 when congress passed the Taft-Hartly Act. The congress then added more restrictions to labor unions. The Civilian Conservation Corp is also known as the Emergency Conservation Work Act. It was established in the early 1933's. Most of the men who joined were unemployed. It decreased the crime rate by 55%. It was given vredit for most of the nations reforestation accomplishments. You had to be between the ages of 18 and 36. You also had to be single and be a citizen of the United States. The men recieved 30 dollars every month and their families were given 25 dollars every month. They were offered educational programs and were able to learn how to read and write. Over 90% of the men particepated in the educational activities. They built over 97,000 miles of road was built. MOre than 3 billion trees were planted. It kept many out getting in trouble and participating in criminal activities. In 1939 it lost its status as an independent agent. The congress funded it and lengthened its time for two more years. It was a huge accomplishment of the new deal. Even though it only lasted for ten years its affects were felt for decades more like the roads and trees.
