Blog disscusion today.

-Bloody sunday- 1965 Samlma to montgomery was a march and they eventually got attacked.

-Thurgood Marshall- was a lawyer. First black supreum court justice

-Brotherhood of sleeping Car Porters - african american labor union. Basically they were maids on trains.

-Tuskegi Erman- the first african american aviation group

-Malcom X- From Omaha Nebraska. .was assisinated.

-Booker T. Washington- Born slave on a tobacco plantation. Was a result of a plantation owner raping his mother. Was able to go to school once emancipation proclimation was announced.

Rosa Parks- sat in the wrong spot on the bus. she sat in front and was suppose to stand. eventually led to the mongomery bus boycot

MLK jr.- worked for blacks to recieve equal rights. Most famous for his peacefull rallies.

Langston Huges- left because of all the racism in his neighborhood. was a famous poet.

Omaha Race Riots- a balck guy was accused of raping a white girl. there was a huge crowd around him and stated a riot.

Collin Powell-

Montgomery Bus Boycot- Blacks rode the bus alot but when they finaly stood up for equal rights they began to boycot it. they didnt agree to sit where they were suppose to on the bus. Finally let to unsegragation

What was the New Deal(1st and 2nd) and it's goals(3 R's)? - Relif, Recovery, Reform. Temportary programs were set up Soil Conservation act, FDIC Social Securticy administration

Why did people criticize the New Deal?

Why was FDR upset with the US Supreme Court and what did he do to try to solve this issue?

How did the New Deal help:


unemployed- Pwa helped people get jobs by making roads and constructing the highways- CWA created 4 million jobs but were only temporary, they made bridges air ports. US gave jobs to low income people who needed jobs so they could build houses. Works Project Administartion- gave jobs to people to get working again. Built highways and parks inorder to keep up towns.Ended in 1943 because of the up coming war.

farmers-

factory workers/labor- NYA gave people jobs. NLRB- established minimum wage and max. work hours.

young people- NYA granted young people money gave them jobs. CCC- Helped the young unemployed people get jobs. For 18-25 years only single men.

banks/business- RFC gave loans to many buisness and farmers. FSA regulated the sale of securities or stocks. Prohibited fraud in the sales of stocks.

Stock Market- FSA prohibited fraud in the sales of stocks. also prohibited pooling of stocks.


home owners-

elderly- SSA tax taken out of your income for survivours old age and disabled.

Native Americans- Indian Reorganization Act- helped out native americans. Broke up land and gave it to individual tirbes.

Describe the culture of the 1930's.
