Today in class we talked about Pearl Harbor. We are going to have the test over WW2 tomorrow and continue them until they are done, it is A-Z so I will most likely have it either tomorrow or Thursday. The blog this week is something in our research for the project that we want to do more on. We are researching the Pacific Front.
There was supposed to be three waves planned by Yamamoto. They didn’t do the third wave. They were mad at us because we had ended their oil shipments in 1941 after Japan invaded French Indochina. They felt like they had three options to follow after we stopped trading. They thought they could draw out of French Indochina, they could compromise with the US, or they could attack us. We told them that we would trade oil with them after they withdrew from China.
The United States put their ships in Pearl Harbor together so that it would be harder for Japanese spies to get a bomb inside. This left them vulnerable from the air attacks. The Nevada escaped the first wave but the second wave attacked it. The three aircraft carriers were gone when they attacked us. There were US planes coming from California that day so they dismissed the radar signals of the attack.
There was a code from the Japanese saying that there was going to be an attack but they thought that it wasn’t possible for them to carry it out. There were Japanese midget subs that alerted the destroyers and five of them were destroyed. We thought that if we were going to be attacked it would be an island closer to Japan.
Japanese were trying to break ties to the US but it was delayed until after the attack. Japan wanted to take the Phillipines but they wanted to take out our Navy first. They thought that they would be able to do whatever they wanted in Asia and the US would give up.
