Today Dani, Cheryl, and Brittany finished their presentation about fossil fuels and alternative energy.

  • Alternative energy includes any energy sources that reduce pollution.
  • Advantages are that they reduce carbon emissions and can be used in many different ways.
  • Solar power converts the sun's energy into electricity
  • Geothermal is taking heat from under the ground and converting it into energy. The heat is turned into electricity to power buildings and homes.

Then Trey and MaKayla presented their powerpoint about endangered species:

  • Polar bears are becoming endangered as a result of global warming and also hunting.
  • The number of polar bears in the world have dropped from several thousands to just a several hundreds in a few short years.
  • The Endangered Species Act was passed in 1973 because the U.S. realized that a lot of species are dying off and becoming extinct and they wanted to help protect them.

Mr. Bruns had to leave class early so the presentations will continue tomorrow. The rest of class we had time to study the Europe map, or work on our assigned blog for this week.
