Today Mr.Bruns had to leave early for a tennis game, and we picked up where we left off yesterday on our presentation. I'll get my information from yesterdays presentations hopefully by reading my peers blogs.

Alternative Energy- sources that reduce pollution

  • Advantages- reduce carbon emissions, better choice than others like burning fuels, can be used in many ways.
  • Types- Wind Mills, Solar Power, Geothermal (power extracted from heat near the earth)
  • Wind Power- wind turbines, easy to farm around, doesn't release pollution, slower wind less energy, takes up valuable space
  • Solar Power- Convering the suns energy into electricity, heats houses, energy from the sun will never run out, is expensive and isn't always sunny.
  • Geothermal, takes heat from under the ground and converts into electricity, can release harmful pollutants

Endangered Species-

  • Polar Bears are one of the first species to be endangered by global warming, a little over hald live in Canada, early ice break up in artic regions as a result of global warming.
  • Endangered Spececies Act- An act passed in 1973 to help protect our animals that are dwindiling
  • Why hunt polar bears? for hide, meat, fat, flesh.
  • Numbers have dwindled from several thousand to a few hundred from hunting and global warming in past few years, now only traditional weapons are aloud to be used when hunting them.
  • Polar Bears can swim for a long time, but now that a lot of the ice has melted they end up drownding and dying.
  • They can have up to three cubs.

(to be continued maybe thursday)

For the rest of the hour we had time to work on our Blog Assignments and study the map of Europe.
