Today we did some more powerpoints. Alternative Energy are energy sources that reduce pollution. They reduce cabron emissions, alternative energy is a better choice over other energy choices, and there are many ways it can be used. They include wind mills, solar power, and geothermal. Wind power: the turning of the blades on the turbines is converted into a generator so we can use the energy from them. It releases no pollution into the air, but they take up lots of space and the slower the wind the less electricity we recieve. Solar power: converting the suns energy into electricity. It's used to heat houses and all sorts of other household activities. The sun, along with with, will never run out, and dosn't release pollution. BUT it is expensive. Geothermal: taking heat from under the ground and converting it into electricity. The heat is turned into steam then into electricity. It can release harmful pollutants. MaKayla did her powerpoint on endangered species. Polar bears are the first animals to be endangered because of global warming. The United States has passed an endangered species act. Early ice break in the artic regions is a result of global warming. The number of polar bears has droped from several thousand to a few hundred in just the past few years. They're dying off because of global warming and of humans hunting them. The water is warming and the ice is breaking up, so the polar bears have longer to swim and can't make it, so they get weak and die. Global warming is a serious threat for the future of many animals. Mr. Bruns had to leave early, so Makayla will finish up her powerpoint later. I uploaded my powerpoint to my website, did some message board posts, and studied a bit on my Europe map.
