Today in class we talked about the next individual topic and signed up for them. Then we talked about the decades project.

African Front
The United States was drawn into the war by Europe and Japan. We wanted to invade Africa and work our way across the sea to Italy and Europe. Stalin was mad because he thought we were messing around in Africa while they were fighting and it also pushed forces toward Russia itself. Their were 100,000 Vichy French in Africa. It was called Operation Torch. Eisenhower wanted an escaped Vichy General to assume command of the conquered troops. Darlan took control of the French forces and he was assassinated. George Patton led the Allied forces. Allies pushed the Axis back but stopped at Tripoli to fortify in case of attack.

Montgomery was at Tripoli when German General Rommel attacked Anderson. They thought Rommel had more troops then he did and Rommel pushed the Allies back until he got sick and started to lose land.
