Assigned blog for this week is 9-11 (since that's this saturday)
No school yesterday.
Today we're showing our powerpoints, starting with 5-1. im 6-1, part 2....hoping i wont have to go today. but i do have it done. its on my page, uploaded from home. and i just checked, it works. i had to redo the font tho, since the powerpoint on this computer doesnt have as many options as the one at home. while i was doing that, everyone else was setting up too. the first day always has issues, says "mr." bruns.
so thats almost half of class gone, and we havent started presenting yet. buty im fine with that, honestly.
5-1: Culture clashes on the Prairie, part 1. Plains indians lived on the great plains. 4 important tribes were dakota, cheyenne, soiux, and comanche... buffalo were important; used for clothing, food etc. lived in tepees. migrated. Had many gods, to explain what seemed strange to them (sun, moon, rain, etc) had ceremonies, powwows, and dressed up for these rituals and celeberations. first got horses from the spanish...made life easier, but caused wars between tribes (could travel farther, and trespassing was often).Lived in small family groups, grandparents took care of grandkids while parents worked. men were given a feather per heroic act. women sewed, decorated, and cooked. men fought, hunted, built, etc.
Part 2: White settlers moved in to their lands and pushed them further and further west. Had very different views from indians. whites killed all the buffalo wastefuly . 1858 gold findings drew people of many ethnic backgrounds west to mining camps. horses and cows flourished, people learned to rope, brand, care for cattle. Cowboys, ranches. Mexican vaqueros. demand for beedf went up after civil war. trains and railroads were built. Cattle routes changed; routes to move cattle from ranches up to railroads to be shipped around the country.
the end. that was one long presentation. but very infirmational.
