Today Mr. Bruns is continuing to present his powerpoint over World War II. We started off by talking about island hopping. After the Allied won the Battle of Miday and Coral Sea we started to island hop to push the Japanese back. We kept pushing them back until we reached Iwo Jima I learned that we actually raised the flag their twice. We raised it twice because the first time the flag was too small and we wanted it to be better documented. They wanted to go down in history for winning such an important battle.
Next we started to talk about the Manhatten Project. Leslie Groves was the put in charge of the Manhatten Project. Oppenheimer was the head scientist put in charge of the Manhatten Project. The first test of the Manhatten Project was called Trinity. The Enola Gay was the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb. The plane was named Enola Gay because Paul Tibbets named it after his mother. The Bockscar was the plane that dropped the Fat Man bomb, however this plane is a lot less famous because it was the second bomb that was dropped. The Yalta Conference broke Germany into four parts. The Nuremburg Trials were the trials that the Nazi's were put under after the war.
The GI Bill of Rights gave military people money after they returned home so that they could go to school and get a quality education. We also forced Japanese people into camps because we were scared of an inside attack. After 50 years Bill Clinton finally apalogized for what happened.
