Today we are starting presentations. Erin and Jenna will be presenting on Germany first. The questions that we need to answer are...
1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?
The Treaty of Versailles had a huge impact on Germany. Their army had to be cut to 100,000 men. Their navy was reduced to 26 ships. They also lost 12.5 % of their land. Germany also had to pay to rebuild all of the destruction that they had created.
2. What types of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?
Weimar Republic was a government that started in 1919. It was a weak government that was run by Jews. It had several flaws and lasted 14 years. It was a democracy. Hitler tried to overthrow the Weimer Republic and was sentenced to be in jail for five years. He only was in jail for nine months, but wrote his boook in this time. In his book he talked about his goals for Germany. After this kind of government Hitler and the Third Reich started to gain power. In 1933 the Nazi party had the majority of the vote.
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
Hinderburg died who was the leader before Hitler. After he died Hitler was pretty much given the leadership role of Germany. After this, Hitler declared himself a dictator and became the focal leader of Germany. He started to discriminate the Jews in small ways before moving into the mass killings.
4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
Hitler really had a bad impact on Germany. If he wasn't so set on the perfect race, Germany could have had numerous soldiers of Jewish decent. No-one knows how the war would have turned out if this would have happened. He had his mind made up and didn't think about the positives. He did however make the German people have hope in the government which was a positive. He also started to have new war equipment being made so they were prepared for the war.
5. What were the goals of the leader?
Hitler wanted to reverse the Treaty of Versailles and get all of the things that they had lost from the treaty. Hitler also wanted to create the Perfect Race because he thought that the Jews were to blame fo all of the worlds problems. Hitler would first put the Jews in Ghettos. The people that could work were put into work camps. Then the people that couldn't work were killed in death camps.
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?
The Nazi's practiced a type of warfare called Blirzkrieg. They would attack countries when the least expected it with tanks and airplanes. Before WWII no one had ever seen a type of military like this. Most of the countries that they invaded did not have the man power or equipment to over take this strategy.
7. What role did they play in WWII?
They were the aggressers. They invaded countries that had land that was taken from them from the Treaty of Versailles. They were also the main country that took part in the killing of the Jews.
8. Who were their allies in WWII?
Germany made up the Axis powers. Their main allies were Japan, Italy, Romania, Hungary, and Bugaria. Japan, Italy, and Germany signed the Tripartite Act which said that they would support each other threw the war.
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?
The county of Germany was split into four different sections. Following the war the Nazi Party fell off it rule over the government. Also the leader that led them through WWII, Adolf Hitler, committed suicide when he knew that the Nazis would not be able to win.
