Today we continued to learn more about World War I. I learned that the winner of WWI would get a lot of land from the loser. This war was mainly over gaining land. Under Woodrow Wilson the United States declared neutrality from the war, but it only lasted for three years.Next we talked about the causes for the United States to become involved in the war. One reason was that Germany was sinking ships and killing Americans. They were sinking passengers ships which killed a lot of innocent people. One of the most famous was the sinking of the Lusitania. I learned that the sinking of ships was the biggest reason for the U.S. to join the war. Another reason was the Zimmerman note. It was a letter where Germany made an alliance with Mexico to fight America. The note was found and put in papers, which made the people of the U.S. support the war cause. Third was the War Hawks and their beliefs was a big reason. Fourth was that our trading with Great Britain increased and trade with Germany decreased, which pulled us into the war. I also learned that British and American propaganda led to us getting involved in the war. Propaganda was persuasive advertising, which would make people want to go to war. Another thing that I learned was that a Preparedeness Program was started in 1915. This program started to prepare us for war. American Business pushed us into war because they would get government money to make money. The final reason was the Germany declared unliminted submarine warfare, which meant that they would sink passenger ships without giving a warning.
