9. What did the progressives do to make food and drugs safer for the people of the United States? (started this topic earlier) The Meat Inspection Act 1906 was passed, this has evolved into a tougher Act. The Pure Food and Drug Act 1906 was passed because of the extremes that meds were at, from sugars to hard addictive drugs.10. What did progressives (TR) do to help conserve land and resources in our country? Newlands Act- 1902, sold western land and made dams which allowed for irrigation. Didn't help African Americans very much, if they helped the blacks then the southerner representatives wouldn't help pass acts so they pushed aside the blacks. He was a conservationist but not extreme so he wouldn't say they had to save every bit of land but he didn't want us to take over. He said that they should save some for parks and be smart about mining and drilling and such.11. What did progressives do to regulate businesses in the United States? Trustbusters, TR thought there was good and bad trusts(monopolies), he broke about 40 trusts up while president he thought he bad had to be taken out. Teddy brought in the coal owners and workers to over come the problems, he got then a 9 hour work day and about a 10% pay increase. Passed the Elkins Act(1903 no-rebates) and Hepburn Act(1906-ICC sat max RR rates) made rail roads fair.-Breann Lehr
