Today in U.S. history:Exploration:People explored for gold, spices, and anything profit. France, Portugal, England, and Spain explored the most. Spain had most of the land on the western hemisphere, mostly Mexico. England settled on the east coast, and France settled in Canada. People wanted to leave Europe so they could have religious freedom, disease, and because of political persecution (gov't killing people).Revolutionary War:Between England and the American colonies. French helped the Americans, and obviously Americans won and received our freedom. Americans knew the land better because it was fought in America. Americans had a better reason to fight, for independence. France helped because they didn't like England, and future trade routes.Articles of Confederation:1781-1789 first gov't set up, and failed. Land and Northwest ordinance told how to sell land and make into future states, also how to govern them. This failed because all power went to the state gov't. Federal gov't had very little power, depended on states. This is what we talked and learned about in class today.
