Truman Fair Deal Blog

This week Mr. Bruns assigned our Big Blog Topic. Mine is the Truman Fair Deal and here is what I found about it.

The Truman Fair Deal was part of President Harry S. Truman’s State of the Union address during January of 1949. President Truman revealed his plans to start up a legislative plan that he called the Truman Fair Deal. This New Deal plans were thought up by FDR before he sadly passed away. There was one main goal of the Truman Fair Deal, and that was to increase employment to capacity, provide assistance to farmers, and extend Social Security. Dixiecrats was the new name for the Southern Democrats. The stupidest name a political party could change their name to. Republicans joined the Grand Ole Party, which was a group trying to get new things added to the Truman Fair Deal and they were also trying to add new and different policies to it. The New Deal made some people think that it was going to change legislation, which it was going to but in a minor way to help prevent criminal practices in the United States, mostly in the southern United States. This was credited mostly to the coalition of Republicans and southern Democrats.

The United States medical health insurance industrial things had been being looked at for more than 60 years. For the most part it was not to the most important detail or at the top of the list of anything for that case. A small fraction of the Truman Fair Deal was put towards the health reform in the United States and it was trying to get the health insurance to become universal and available for everyone. If politicians and lobbyists had not been for the doctors and the insurance companies, many millions of people would have lived because they can afford health insurance in the Untied States. This was the part that made the politicians and lobbyists mad, the health insurance was cheaper and nobody would make any money out of the Truman Fair Deal, so they were against a health care reform. Some of the things that set the Truman Fair Deal apart was that it had to manage to get into a position so that everyone was willing to go with it. This was very important because it was really the only reasonable way for the Truman Fair Deal to pass.

Intentions that this deal would pass were very unlikely and very much slim to none that anyone would be along with it as it was. People thought that if they included something about raising minimum wage that it would make people be okay with passing the deal because they would get their minimum wage raised. People thought that businesses would not be able to afford the raise in minimum wage, so they wanted the minimum wage to come before the deal was passed. It did not happen that way, and just as people thought that it would send the United States economy into a spiraling downfall, it did the exact opposite and made the country become prosperous. On that remark, the Truman Fair Deal gained a good mark and more people liked it. The Social Security extension benefited millions of people and helped people to be able to afford things after they retire. The Housing Act of 1949 was also a big part of the Truman Fair Deal, and it allowed for the construction of over 800,000 low cost homes in the United States for families that could not afford homes. The conservative efforts in Congress were enough to add a good chunk of people to pass the Truman Fair Deal by itself. Truman’s attention was faced on essentially one major thing beside the New Deal and that was the war that was about to begin in Korea, this out did and chance in making the United States great again, but it also showed how great our military power was and still is today.

Personal thoughts and opinions:

I think that the Truman Fair Deal was an overall success and I also think that it could have gone over alot better. I think that the Housing Act of 1949 and the increase of Minimum Wage were the major two parts of the Truman Fair Deal. Most likely this would have gone over better if FDR would have introduced it to the people of the United States like it was planned.
