I chose
to watch the movie called Tora! Tora! Tora! This whole weekend has been jam packed and this is the only time I could get to watch a movie. This movie starts out on a Jap battle ship. With what looks like the head guy of the navy and a whole bunch of sailors. I didn’t realize how much work the jap navy put into just the entrance of an officer. They have a whole band playing a song when the head of the navy guy walks out of the door and everything. It begins with a new commander being put in place of the navy. It shows the top guys discussing what they should attack. With the signing of the alliance japan become the third member of the axis power. This movie has Americans and japans views on the war. Americans have a decoding machine that says everything the japan is saying. Only a selected few are able to see the decoded messages. None of the over sea commanders are able to see them for fear that if they are captured they will tell the Japanese that we can read everything they are saying. This movie also shows how Japanese aircraft pilots practice hitting targets with torpedoes. The movie skips around a lot but it is good about letting you know whats going on. Americans know that the Pearl Harbor is a mouse trap and that they should have kept it in California. We think that the harbor will be ok because the torpedoes will go to deep to hit our ships. The japs know this too but they also know that the british attacked three of our ships in Toronto with shallow water and sunk them. The japs also have a new aircraft called the zero which is way better than ones before. Genda is the master planner of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He plans on using six aircraft carriers. high level bombers and zeros for backup. He also plans to attack on a weekend. We have decoded that japan will attack with six carriers and that they are planning to attack early morning. Our aircraft pilots aren’t very good at dropping torpedoes. We have a radar system that is supposed to detect all aircrafts in the air. But where we want to put it is protected by a wild life management office. So we put it up there anyway. America is put on full alert. We are ordered to put all plains in the conter of the airfield to prevent sabotage. The japs are debating on only using three aircraft carriers. they also think that they won’t have enough fuel to get to pearl harbor. The japs find an island similar to pearl harbor to practice flying low and dropping torpedoes. We place our radar tower on permitted land but we don’t think it will work so we don’t properly go about it. The japs finally set a date to attack. They obviously chose dec 7. We still have in the back of our minds that japan is going to attack us but we are a week off of when we think we will be attacked. We think we are going to get attacked on nov 30. We lost sight of the japan air craft carriers. japan is prepareing a fourteen part message to send to the U.S. japan plotted out the trip in points. They have reached the point to where they can reach Hawaii radio waves. Japan carriers are getting very close now. And the pilots are preparing to take flight. They are practicing on the battle ship of how they will attack the island. They are very calm and cracking jokes while preparing. The admiral is rushing the first parts of the messages to the white house. But the next parts aren’t supposed to arrive until dec 7. The Americans plan to have 12 b-17 to arrive at the harbor in the morning of dec 7. We have now received the fourteenth part of the message and it states that japan declares war. We knew something was up we just didn’t know fully what was going to happen. A jap sub tried sneaking in the harbor behind a battle ship. The jap air force is on its way towards pearl harbor.the jap air plains follow a radio signal into the harbor. The radar station sees two pulses coming towards the harbor and phones it to the information center. we think its just b-17s coming into the harbor. Japan’s ultimatum is supposed to be delivered thirty minutes before the attack to Washington. Japan has gotten surprise on pearl harbor. At 7:58 on the morning of dec 7 1941 the Japanese successfully got a surprise attack upon pearl harbor. The b-17s fly right into the mahem. They are un armed and out of fuel. The japs pretty well wipe out everything. Only two American fighter planes were able to get in the air. The second wave doesn’t actually take off. Since our two carriers weren;t in the harbor they weren’t going to waster their gas trying to look for them. Although japan got the element of surprise they didn’t get the ultimatum to washinton until 55 minutes after the attack. Now they have just opened a can of worms that they can’t handle.
This movie was a great movie. It definitely explained a lot about both views of Americans and Japanese sides. I only wish they could make a little not so out dated version. But all in all it was good. I saw it was on tv and I just so happened to stumble upon it. I didn’t know what it was but I figured I would record it and see how good it was. I’m glad I did. .
