Today we went on presenting on our project.1. What did the progressives do to make the workplace safer?-They gave them protection and they worked till exhaustion. They had long hours and had like ear muffs. OSAH started in 1970, and can stop businesses have dirty working conditions.2. What did the progressives do to help end or reduce child labor? - They passed new laws that make child labor. They were hired more likely and can fit there fingers in small places. They were more prone to fatigue. Keanting-Owen act is in 1960, you could ship things made by kids out of states.3. What is prohibition? Why did people want prohibition to come about? What tactics were used to bring about prohibition? - Prohibition is the banning of something. There were not many laws to alcohol; people began to view that as moral long. Churches tried to get it passed and women did to. They would make posters and hand out signs. The big thing was all they thought that they were trying to get rid of drunkenness. There are still some counties.4. What did progressives do to help workers reduce the number of hours they had to work? - They was a lot of long hours and long days. They had to work through fatiuge and sick. First Muller vs. Oragan, one of his women workers worked more than 10 hours in one day. The work hours to day is around 8 hours a day. Depending on job.5. What did progressives do to make our country more democratic?-6. What is women’s suffrage? What approaches did women use to gain the right to vote?- women were considered second class citizens. THey didnt have a right to vote. They started conventions and had people sing stuff to get them to vote. There were two huge conventions. They tried to convince states to let them vote. They tried to test the 14th amendment.7. What did progressives do to bring about better wages for workers?-8. What is segregation? What did progressives do to help African Americans?9. What did the progressives do to make food and drugs safer for the people of the United States?- There was alot of food and health problems. They were getting sick and dying so they started passing laws thart made them get labels. The USDA helped people with sickness from bad meat. You would eat anything that the meat came with. The had anual meat inspection. If you eat meat from a cow that takes steriods then you might get steriods.10. What did progressives (TR) do to help conserve land and resources in our country?11. What did progressives do to regulate businesses in the United States?- Make sure businesses do what they were soppose to do.12. What were the progressive’s philosophy on tariffs?
