-What impact did railroads have on the US?It helped farmers. It created time zones. It helped develop the west.-Why were many people upset with the railroads?Because the fees weren't really fair.-What did the Granger or government do to regulate the railroads? It made laws to protect farmersToday in class I learned that the ages of the railroads started with Richard Ely. At that time they really didn't have very many railroad tracks. They had to create time zones. There was a 12 minute change between Boston and New York. Ely thought that the idea pull man was un-American. There was a lot of problems with farmers and railroad companies because the government would give the companies land. They would do their railroad thing and give the rest of the land to different companies and it was supposed to go to the other farmers. The farmers rates were higher than the companies.Granger Laws had to do with issues that the farmers had and they tried to help out the farmers. The grangers were farmers. They elected social legislatures. They were passed in 1871. Some were proven to be unconstitutional. In 1887 they passed the Commerce Act that helped some of the Granger Laws that were them considered unconstitutional.I think that the railroads were a really good idea for the United States. I think it made a huge difference for our country. I don't think that everything they did was very fair pertaining to the railroads. I also think that you will always have problems will things this big and you can't please everyone.
