Today is Thursday and everyone is deadbeat tired. Despite all of the sleep deprivation, we began our Cold War presentations. There were many factors that joined together to cause the Cold War. After WW2, the Soviet Union and the US were extremely competitive as to who was the best and strongest country.
The United States had allies all over the world. All of North America, South America, the Philipenes, Austrailia and Western Europe were all allies. The Soviets had control of all of Russia, and CHina was kind of its own faction.
The Truman doctrine was a strategy to contain communism. This plan was used to try and prevent other countries from defecting to communism as well as the United States itself. Greece and Turkey asked for the US the help and protect them from being taken over by the communist movement. We did help Greece and Turkey and prevented them from falling to communism. We sent money and supplies and advice to these two countries and they remained free.
George Kennan came up with the policy of containment. Our goal during the Cold War was to contain communism and to prevent it from spreading. We went to war in Korea and Viet Nam to prevent Communism from spreading past its borders of the Soviet Union.
Communists planned on world domination. The National Security Council Report shaped US policy to fight off communism in the country. This was established during the beginning of the Cold War when we became aware of the goals of the communist movement.
Marshall plan" This plan was the main plan for rebuilding and creating a stronger economic foundation in Western Europe which was anit-communist. America aided Europe from the beginning of the War to the end of the Marshall Plan. We lent them money so that they could stabilize the economy and infrastructure .
The Iron curtain Speech was a speech given by Churchil that stated that Europe had basically been split into East and West. The Domino Effect was when one country would fall to Communism, it would greatly effect their neighboring country and they would fall and before long Communism would spread to America and consume the World. Communism is really just a terrible form of government. They brainwash the citizens.
