The Soviet was not allowed to participate in the Treaty of Versailles. They did sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with Central Powers to get out of World War 1. This was during the Bolshevik Revolution. Russia lost a lot of land from the Treaty of Versailles. The Brest-Litovsk didn’t really win or lose the war, they just left.
The Nazi-Soviet-Non-Aggression Pact was signed August 23, 1939. This gave the Soviet Union Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Poland would also be split up which would serve as a buffer zone between the SU and Germany. The Soviet Union supplied Hitler and his Germany with supplies which included arms, munitions, oil, medical supplies and more. This supply abruptly stopped when Germany invaded Russia.
Hitler killed half as many people as Stalin did with only 10 million compared to Stalin’s 20 million people. Stalin was would kill anybody that he did not trust. Stalin was afraid that he would be killed before he could rule.
Stalin took educated people out of their homes and put them in the fields to farm. He took the farmers out of the fields and put them in the military. Stalin knew that he could not waste money killing people with bullets; he simply had his prisoners work themselves to death.
Stalin basically killed the Soviet Military because he killed nearly all of the generals for fear of being overthrown. The Soviets lost many lives due to lack of training and no military strategy. However, the Russians were able to hold off Germany just because of their enormous size and number of people.
The US had been allied with the Soviet Union. The US had really helped the Soviet Union. The Soviets would take the supplies that we would give them and modify them to make them their own. They would then use those weapons and supplies to mass produce their own. They wanted to outdo the US after we had helped them and we have seemed to butt heads even until today.
The Soviets should be thanking the US every chance they can. We helped them so well that there is every possibility that they would have been taken over by Germany and would all be Nazis right now.
