Today Bruns talked about semester test details and the blog. We found out about the times we will be taking class. We are continuing with WWI.The winner got land from the loser, the war was fought for land. U.S. declared neutrality under President Wilson. It lasted for three years.Causes of the involvement of the U.S..-Germany was sinking ships and killing Americans. This was the biggest reason for the U.S. to join the war.-Second reason was the Zimmerman note. In the letter, Germany make an alliance with Mexico to fight America. The note was intercepted and put in papers, which caused people to support war with Germany.-Beliefs of War Hawks also was a big reason.-Trade with England increased and with Germany decreased, which pulled us into the war because it showed we wanted them to win.-British and American propaganda(persuasive advertising)--people would vote on whether to go to war or not.-Preparedeness Program (1915) -started preparing-American Business-munitions (weapons) business pushed U.S. into war to make money-German declaration of "unliminted submarine warfare" -sinking passenger ships without warning (ties with 1)Lusitania was a reason of us joining the war-pushed us more toward it.The homefront refers to what people did back in the U.S. to help win the war. ex. Red Cross, working in factories, providing food for yourself, buying war bondsWar Industries Board regulated industry in the U.S. America had a lot of supplies, mostly food. The Food Administration was headed by Hoover. This helped conserve food. Also "victory gardens" were planted so everyone had their own food and didn't have to take from others. They had certain days where they wouldn't eat meat or wheat. People thought food would win the war.Committee on Public Information-goal was to influence U.S. public opinion to support WWI in their own way. (propaganda)
