Today, we had an excellent blog discussion. I started off with my discussion of why Europeans left Europe.

Describe the differences between the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies.

New England became the center of commerce, finances, all the business stuff. The middle colonies were not as business oriented as NE but not as agricultural as the south. They were a mix. The south was a big agricultural region with many farms and slaves to do their work.

Causes and Effects of the French and Indian War

The French and allied Indians were against England and their colonies. It was caused by Britian wanting to kick France out of Canada and take that land. France wanted to keep that land. English were unsuccessful for a while. The effects were as follows. The British won and the French were kicked out of the West and Canada was taken by the British. The line of Proclomation was moved further west, which is the line that says how far the colonists can settle. Great Britian was but into major debt, so they taxed the colonists a whole lot.

Causes and Effects of the Revolutionary War

1780's against the American colonists and Great Britian. The colonists wanted more independence. "No Taxation Without Representation". No American colonists were represented in Parliament, and they wanted to be represented in GB's gov't. Lack of communication. a third of people wanted indepence, one third wanted to stay a colony of GB, and one third didn't really care.

Describe the purpose of the Declaration of Independence and what it talked about.

To declare independence officially. It justified their right to overthrow the gov't. Most of it talks about the bad things that King George the Third.

Describe the setup of the Articles of Confederation and why it failed as a gov't.

It was the US's first gov't, that only lasted about a decade. Congress and one person per state made up the gov't basically. There was no president. Taxes weren't a part of this gov't, so they couldn't get money. The Articles of Confederation gave most of the power to the states. The federal gov't had very little power. The gov't had to ask the states for money, and they mostly refused.

Describe what the US constitution does, including ammendments.

It had been ammended over twenty times. Establishes our gov't. Each state has two votes. The Bill of Rights protects people's rights.
