Today we continued with our blog discussions. Mr. Bruns thinks such days are exciting, but we do not.
Notes:
4. Describe reasons why Europeans came over from Europe.
Europeans noticed that the Spanish were getting rich from goods supplied by America. The Europeans also wanted to use the country's resources for riches. Religion was also a big reason, the freedom to practice and believe in whatever you wanted was nice.
5. Describe the differences between the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies.
New England was settled by Puritans. The only difference between it and England was the religion. New England was the center of trade and finance. The Middle's economy was a mix between the North and South. They had many large ports. The South was settled by wealthy colonist, meaning each person owned a lot of land. The South was mostly farming, and the landowners had slaves to do their work.
6. Describe the causes and effects of the French and Indian war.
The war was fought by the French and Indians against the British. The major cause of this war was British trying to move more westward when the French were already there. The war ended with the French losing to the British, and the British took over Canada and the French were robbed of the majority of their land. The other result of the war was The Line of Proclamation.
7. Causes and effects of the Revolutionary War
This war was fought between the American colonists and the British. It was mostly caused because of the ridiculous taxes. No taxation without representation: The colonists didn't want to be taxed unless they would be able to be represented in the British government. All the tension eventually led to American leaders stepping up and requesting to start war with Britain.
8. Describe the purpose of the Declaration of Independence and what it talked about
The purpose of the declaration was to declare independence for the United States. It talked about how all men are to be created equally, and so it was fair to be independent. They had the rights of the liberty and pursuit of happiness. The majority of the declaration talks about the wrongs of King George III.
9. Describe the set-up of the articles of confederation and why it failed
It was the U.S.'s first confederation right after the Revolutionary War. The congress had one representative per state, and had no president. The government failed because they had no taxation, which means no funds for the war debt. The articles gave most of the power to the state government, and even though there was a federal government, it had very little power. The federal government only got money by asking for it from the state governments, and the state governments could turn them down if they wished. It basically failed because the country was not united and the government had no money.
10. Describe what the U.S. Constitution does, including amendments.
Created on Sept. 17, 1787 in Pennsylvania. The biggest thing the Constitution does is establish our branches or government; executive, judicial, and legislative. The Bill of Rights generally protects people's rights and extend rights to people who have been wronged over the century. The last rights are mostly about voting.
