---Stalin was going to be a priest and he changed his name to Joseph Stalin and he had his people kill millions of people.
---Nuremburg Laws made Jews second class citizens and removed their civil rights. Established the memberships to being Jewish and what they could do.
---Kristalnacht, “Night of Broken Glass”, Nazis burned, looted, and broke windows out of Jewish businesses and synagogues.
---The Atlantic Charter was when the US and GB got together to put together our war goals which basically said that Hitler couldn’t remain in power
---Scorched Earth Policy was that Stalin demanded his troops to destroy everything as they retreated so Germany couldn’t have them.
IV. Hitler's Treatment of the Jews
He thought that the German Aryan race was the master race and everyone else was inferior. He really hated the Jews and he put them in concentration camps and killed them off. He was never really sure what he wanted to do with the Jews so at first he separated them from the rest of Germany and then made them into slaves before eventually killing them.
He moved them into ghettos, took away their rights, defined Jews and said they could only marry Jews, and then was Kristalnact which started them going to concentration camps, they were then moved to death camps.
V. Munich Conference-Policy of Appeasement
Hitler demanded the Sudetenland part of Czechoslovakia and they don’t want him to have this. They have a conference which decides to give Germany the land as long as Hitler promised not to take any more land. They appeased Hitler to prevent war.
VI. US Role in the 1920's/1930's
-Washington Naval Conference-Made the Navies of the countries that signed it to be decreased to try and stop wars.
-Kellog-Briand Pact was the pact that outlawed war which seemed that it would settle disputes and never have a war again.
-Neutrality Acts throughout the 1930's- Said that the United States wouldn’t go to war with other countries and we wouldn’t trade with them if they were at war. Then it went to the cash and carry system so they could trade but not use our ships.
-Quarantine Speech-Speech that the peaceful countries need to come together and quarantine off the aggressive nations.
-Bases for Destroyers- We started giving Great Britain old destroyers and in return they allowed us to use their naval bases.
-Lend-Lease Act- It said that they would give them supplies like a ship and then they would give it back after the war
VII. Soviet-German Non-Aggression Pact
Hitler didn’t want to fight a two sided war anymore with Russia and Stalin didn’t want to worry about Hitler invading. It was a Pact that neither would fight one another so neither country had to worry about it. It was also a deal to trade and split up Poland. Russia was to give Germany some raw materials in exchange for guns.
Blitzkrieg
Germany’s fighting strategy that uses bombing to attack the front lines and major centers for trading and transportation. Tank units break through the main lines and advance into enemy territory. Infantry uses trucks to flank the lines and surround them. The rest of the forces come in and crush the enemy.
VIII. Outbreak of War--Blitzkrieg!!
-Japan and China- Japan had little resources so the military took over the government and they invaded Manchuria and then China because they had the resources and new markets for them to sell to.
-Germany and Poland- Germany invaded Poland and overpowered their cavalry with their Blitzkrieg and with Russia attacking on the other side
-Germany and France- Germany used Blitzkrieg to go around the Maginot line through Belgium and overwhelm France in about a month.
-Germany and Great Britain- Germany bombed Great Britain throughout the war and Britain never surrendered and eventually wait out the war. Germany wasn’t going to invade until they had control of the air and they weakened the Navy. The Royal Airforce never lost air superiority so Germany never invaded but they terrorized they people by bombing cities at night.
-Germany and the Soviet Union- Hitler was getting a little bored in Europe and he really hated Communists and Stalin so he turned on his ally and invaded the Soviet Union. Hitler pushed them back but they never got past Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad. Germany surrounded Leningrad and starved the people to death where they sometimes resorted to cannibalism. They never got to Moscow. They almost took Stalingrad but the Russians pushed them back after Hitler took 90 percent of the city.
IX. Pearl Harbor
There was a conspiracy that said they made sure that Japan did attack us so we could get into the war.
There were three waves planned but they didn’t do the third because they thought they had lost surprise.
