Also today, we got started almost right away, instead of taking up 20 minutes for technical issues.
so...
4) why Europeans came to America---they were looking for riches, ways to make money, start new and better lives, etc....looking for religious freedom.
side topic of gang wars between catholics and protestants in northern ireland....
5) my topic....differences between north, south and middle colonial development. i was a little nervous, but it went fine, i blogged on the right stuff. North was the most industrial, south was the most agricultural, and the middle was the middle with boats. etc.
6) causes and effects of French and English war.....cause france and enlgand fighting over land. the winner would determine who was dominant in the colonies. ended with the treaty of Paris. effects were the line of proclamation (farthest point west the brittish colonists could settle)....brittish won canada, french got moved more south. also caused more conflict later on and put Brittan into a large debt (when they began taxing the settlers)
7) causes and effect of Revolutionary War.....causes: Americans wanted their freedom from Brittan- brittan was taxing them to get out of their debt- etc.
8) the Declaration of Independence---main purpose- to declare independence from Brittan. talked about how all men were created equally, so if you're government is a tyranny, the people have both the right and the duty to overthrow it. all people have three basic rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 3/4 of the declaration talked about the wrongs of the king.
9) first government of America....Articles of Confederation. Failure. set up so congress could make important decisions such as going to war. congress had one person per state, but no president. No taxes, so no money or financial support from the people. ultimately failed due to disagreements, no money, and no power (individual state government still had more power).
10) The Constitution & its amendments- constitution sets up our three branches of government, and...i admit to spacing out on this one. but the Bill of Rights protects peoples rights and freedoms. later amendments were other laws, etc.
out of time.
