Todat the Internet was down the whole period, but I decided to look up some possible ideas for my assigned blog this week. I decided to do my on things called Christmas Truces. I learned that a Christmas Truce was when oppising sides in the trenches would take a break from fighting and celebrate holidays such as Christmas and Easter. I also learned that the first truce happened on December 24, 1914 between German and English soldiers stationed in the Western Front. Another thing I learned was that the two sides exchanged gifts in No Man's Land and also played a football game.In 2008 there was a memorial set up where the two sides played the football game. Descendents of the people stationed there played a football. I learned that the two sides dressed up in outfits just like the ones that were worn during the Christmas Truce. I think that having this memorial is great because it shows that even though people were fighting they could celebrate holidays together.
