Today we continued to present, we started with Better Wages. What did progressives do to bring about better wages for workers?I learned wages before the Progressive Era were very bad and low. Usually companies would hire children because they would work for less money than adults. The Progressives tried to pass laws that about wages and they got the Minimum Wage Law was passed in 1938. I also learned that the Equity Pay Act was an act that was passed to have men and women paid equally. Henry Ford was the first person to set a minimum wage. Another thing I learned was that he set minimum wage at 5 dollars a day for working eight hours. What is segregation? What did progressives do to help African Americans?Segregation is the separation of blacks and whites. The Progressives started the NAACP which is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. I learned that Wilson said that he would support the NAACP, but when he was elected he actually brought segregation into Washingtion D.C. The nations capital had not been segregated since the Civil War. Plessy vs. Ferguson stated "Seperate But Equal", it said they could have different facilities for whites and blacks as long as they were getting equal treatment. I also learned that in 1954 in Brown vs. Board of Education said that blacks should be able to go to the same schools as white people. The final thing I learned today was that Brown vs. Board of Education is now accept by the government not Plessy vs. Ferguson.
