Today Amanda and Nick presented on Chapter 8 Section 1. The question for this section is...What advances in science and technology help solve urban problems?I learned that advances in printing, aviation, and photography (cameras) helped speed the transfer of information. Also the new technologies of skyscrapers and bridges allowed more space and easier travel. Another thing I learned was that there was an increased number of magazines, books, and newspapers. Improved paper to make it easier to write in. I also learend that the cities also had increased the number of recreation areas and parks. Street cars and city planners also made the cities better.Next Shelbie presented on Chapter 8 Section 2. The question is...How did education change in the late 1800's and early 1900's?I learned that there was a huge increase in kindergartens in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I also learned that high schools started in the early 1900's. African Americans started to pursue higher education. Another thing I learned was that the Freedman's Bureau helped Afrcian Americans get better education. Blacks founded numerous universities, so they would be treated fairly.
