Today, we continued with blog discussions
the first topic today was why the europeans settled here
the europe notices that the spanish were becoming very rich
the europeans were looking for riches
a lot of the immigrants were in slave like conditions and came over here hoping for a chance at new life
people came over because of religious freedom, they were trying to get away from the catholic church
a lot of africans were forced over for slaveryy
they went over for gold, farmland, any riches
they planned to come over and get there riches and leave but many of them ended up staying
the difference between middle, new england, southern colonies
the new england colonies were ran a lot like england but they wanted religious differences
they were the main center of commerce, trade
the middle colonies had a lot of great ports
had a mix of the north and south
the south was settled by wealthy colonists
a lot of land not as many people
was based on the plantations
the causes and effects of the french and indian war
the french and indians were together and they fought the english
it was caused by the british wanting to take over france
they wanted to gain land
whoever one would be the dominating power in north america
ended in 1763
the british won
the french was almost kicked completely out
the british took over canada
the effects were that they couldn't go over the line of proclamation
the whites wanted to move farther west
the war put great britain in a great debt
they started taxing the people and the colonist were not happy about this
the causes and effects of the revolutionary war
1780s- the american colonists and the british
the americans wanted more independence
they wanted to get rid of the taxes
"no taxation without representation"
they wanted to have a say in the government before they were taxed
the lack of communication was also a big part
people started calling war on independence
the purpose of the declaration of independence and what it talked about
the purpose was to declare in writing that we have independence
it talks about how all men are created equally
they had rights of liberty and the pursuit of happiness
t it contained a lot of what the king of britian did wrong
all the reasons of why we're declaring independence
the set up of the articles of confederation and why it failed as a government
it was america's first government right after the revolutionary war
there was no president; only congress; one representative per state
they failed because they had no taxation
they gave most oof the power to the states
they would have to go and request money from the states and many of them would deny them
the 13 states didn't cooperate
it failed because they had to atleast have 3 votes to make a law
they had no money and none of the states agreed with eachother
describe what the constitution does including the amendments
establishes our government systems
the executive branch is made up of the president
judicial- supreme court
legislative- congress
the bill of rights protects people's rights
