Thomas Edison and Electricity

Thomas Alva Edison developed the very firsdt research labratory in 1876 in Menlo Park, New Jersey. It was there that he first invented the first light bulb. His invention was patened in 1880, and soon after he started to come up with ways for electricity to travel through currents. George Westinghouse was another inventor who worked with Thomas Edison to help develop safer and less expensive ways for electricity to be distributed.

Thomas EdisonThe invention of the light bulb gave electricity a purpose a possibility. Many machines such as printing presses could now be run by electricity. Soon, homes could begin to use electricity to operate lights and appliances. The most important breakthrough that electricity offered was that now manufacturers could now locate their factories anywhere instead of just near rivers. This allowed the manufacturing industry to be reached by many more people and it began to spread throughout the country.

Printing Press in early 1900sWithout Thomas Edison, who knows when the lightbulb would have been invented? The lightbulb really did offer a world of oppertunities for many inventors to come. Of course, our world would not be the same without electricty, so its a really good thing that electricity was developed in the 1890s, if it wasnt, its possible we wouldnt have it now.
