The US Constitution is the highest law that the US has. All of the other laws we have some influence from this document. This is what makes up the US goverment like the Presidency, the Congress, and the Supreme Court. Even though each state has is own constitution the US constitution is higher than the states.
Over time there is things added called amendmetns. These are things added on for the rights of the people even though not all of them are for the rights but many are. But the first ten have there own name and thats the bill of rights. When the framers made the constitution they wanted it to be able to make changes but not to easy but not hard enough to start a new revolution.Since 2006 there are twenty seven amendments. Most of the amendments are about the peoples rights which the government can not change like freedom of speech, can practice what religon you want, and the right to remain silent if your accused of a crime.
The Constitution sets up three main branches of government. These are called the Legislative, the Executive, and the Judiciary. The legislature is called the Congress this is made up from the house of representatives and the senate. The role of the Executive to make sure the laws are used. The Executive is lead by the President and is made up of the Vice President and the Secretaries of all the national departments. The Judicary. This is made up of all the federal courts, all the way up to the Supreme Court. All states have there own court system but there underneath the national court system.
