The Pianist

The Pianist

This movie is about a Jewish pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman , who played for a radio station during WWII. After the radio station that he plays for is bombed by Germany he then realizes that war has been declared on Germany. At this time him and his family are proud and feel that they will soon be out of war. The Jewish slowly lose their rights and are forced into the ghetto. When they are in the Ghetto they starve and face harsh treatment.

The families were forced to Treblinka. Wladyslaw Szpilman was saved by one of the Jewish police. He was put into a reconstruction unit as a slave. At this time Szpilman and another slave smuggle weapons into the ghetto. After they are almost caught Szpilman decided to hide and got help from the people he knew when he was working for the radio. While in hiding a neighbor finds out he is there and he leaves to another hiding place and almost dies because he is not getting enough food. While he is hiding here he sees many things happen out of his window. He sees a fight break out and many people leave. Szpilman is left alone searching for food, and is then caught by a man named Hosenfeld. This man then questions Szpilman and realizes he is a pianist. Hosenfeld asks him to play a song on a piano that is in this building.

Hosenfeld then lets Szpilman stay I the attic and brings him food and takes care of him. After awhile the German troops are forced to leave, this is including Hosenfeld. Before Hosenfeld leaves he ask Szpilman for his name promises to listen for him and gives him a uniform.

Later on some free prisoners pass by an area guarded by soldiers as they hear a man call out. This man is Hosenfeld and he ask them to contact Szpilman. By this time Szpilman has gone back to playing on the radio and by the time he arrives all of the prisoners are released and Szpilman performs a song on the piano to a crowd of people.

For my blog discussion #10, I watched The Pianist along with Taylor S, Kyla H, Josh B, Ben B, and, Zach O. I didn’t like this movie, I thought it was really long and at the beginning it was really hard to get into. I liked the piano playing and I think he is a very talented man. I feel bad for him and wouldn’t want to live my life hiding. It was neat how they took care of him because he played a song. I also felt that this movie was sad and I couldn’t watch some parts. I didn’t like the harsh parts as I felt the treatment of the people was very cruel. I hope my movie for this week is better!
