I did my blog on the 2nd episode of the miniseries The Pacific. Im also watching the third one while im typing this. But in the 2nd episode the 7th marine divison was sent to Guadalcanal to reinforce the 1st marine division in defending a japanese airfield that the americans had overtaken. The american marines sat around while the army moved in to occupy the area. The army was getting new supplies and food while the marines were basically starving because they didnt have much food, and the marines were very low on supplies so they stole some of the armys supplies.
When night came and the americans slept in the old Japanese defenses the americans were bombed by artillery. they suffered some casualties through the night but most of them made it through. The next day the marines set up a defensive line by the airstrip because they found out the japanese were going to try and take it back. during the night the japanese basically did a suicide run, or banzai attack, on the american defensive line. the americans used the japanese former defenses to mow down the incoming japanese with their machine guns. after they were starting to be overrun the americans had to retreat and one of the machine gunners picked up his gun with his hands which was still red hot from shooting and moved back closer to their base. the soldier was put in by his commander for a medal.
The americans were successfull in defending the airstrip at guadalcanal and returned to their ships after they had the island secure. When the americans returned to their ships they talked to the cook while the had coffee and the cook told them that they were on the front of every newspaper and they were heros. After this the American ships moved down to Australia to reinforce their army for the next attack on the Japanese islands.
I think that The Pacific is a very good show just like Band of Brothers and i would recommend it to other people to watch.
