In Senator Inhofe's article it tells his view on Global Warming and talks about something he calls “the most media-hyped environmental issue of all time”. There has been different scares in the media about the world cooling or warming that started back in the year 1895. Over the past 100 years there has been fears of global warning. Some are saying that there are computer that threaten our Earth. The people that are in favor of alarmism seem to think they need to prove to the public that global warming is important and, in fact, one of the biggest problems of this century.
It seems like the media is trying to make a big deal out of this thing when it really isn’t as huge as it’s hyped up to be. The people in the media are missing some of the major points of global warming. They say that global warming is completely man-made but they are ignoring some of the major facts that prove this to be false. Carbon dioxide emissions are supposed to be a big cause of global warming but around the year 1940 (when CO2 emissions were high) the temperature of the Earth started to lower. Also, temperatures started to rise after the “Little Ice Age” around 1850. This was long before carbon dioxide emissions could effect our climate.
Senator Inhofe believes that Kyoto Protocol doesn’t do much of anything to prove that we, humans are the cause of global warming. He says that the Protocol is a lot of nonsense that has never been proven true. In the past there has been many different sorts of predictions about how this world will end and they’re these huge threats to everybody but none of them have ever came true. It seems to be true though that the more people’s predictions turn out to be false the more the people will want to predict.
In the 1920’s Time Magazine wrote an article that warned everyone about an ice age that was going to occur during this time. The following decade (1930’s) the exact same magazine was warning about a global warming scare. Then around 1970 Time decided to switch back to global cooling with another threat of an ice age about to happen. It seems like a lot of the media was having trouble making up their mind. I don’t think they really knew what was happening because they obviously couldn’t get their story straight.
He also talked about information from the movie “An Inconvenient Truth” that was proven to be false. There was a list about a page long that tells facts from the movie that weren’t true like: founded fears about Greenland’s ice is disappearing, the Little Ice Age and Medieval Warm Period had little importance, and the water loss in Lake Chad is due to global warming. An article on September 15 in the year 2006 said that polar bears were being threatened by the effects of global warming. This article was published by Reuters News. It claimed that the polar bears were looking exhausted and almost dead. Reuters article never said the polar bears were actually dead though. They just said they appeared that way.
I believe a lot of what Senator Inhofe is saying and I think the article was very interesting. To me, it seems like the media is trying to give us false information about what is really happening to our planet. Global Warming has always seemed like a big threat but this seems to prove that it isn’t our fault and it’s way different than what everyone makes it out to be. I think it’s crazy that people can ignore some facts out there that are important. Some of those facts are key facts to determining exactly what’s going on with the temperature of our Earth. I don’t understand how they can ignore some of that and just act like it doesn’t exist.
