The Horse and Buffalo

In 1598 the Spanish brought horses to New Mexico. Many life's were changed drastically after that. After that they were able to hunt and they even started using guns to hunt more efficiently. By the mid 1800's most tribes had left their farms to hunt buffalo and roam the plains.

When using horses and roaming the fields many tribes would end up trespassing on other tribe's land. This would often led to wars. For many young men and women taking part in these would lead to prestige. Sometimes warring tribes would call a truce to trade goods, share news, and enjoy harvesting festivals.

Many tribes would make tepees from buffalo hides and used the buffalo for clothing, blankets, and shoes. They would dried buffalo meat and make it into jerky. Horses and a huge part in Native American life.
