The EnvironmentPresident Roosevelt was into saving nations natural resources. The Civilian Conservation Corps planted trees, built fire lookout towers, and hiking trails. The farmers got help from the Soil Conservation Services by showing them how to converse the soil through contour plowing, terracing, and crop rotation. The Taylor Grazing Act in 1934 helped stop injury to the public grazing lands by helping reduce overgrazing.
The Tennessee Valley Authority ActThe Tennessee Valley Authority Act was signed by President Roosevelt on May 18,1933This act was asked to tackle important problems facing the valley such as flooding, providing electricity to homes and businesses, and replanting forests. They built dams to control the flooding. The government added the national park system in the 1930's. This established new wildlife refuges and they have large wilderness areas. TVA typically produces more than 130 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, making it the largest electric power producer in the country. Federal agency made the power plants along the Tennessee river. The Tennessee Valley covers parts of seven states.
Hydroelectric DamThis dam uses water power to create electricity. The deeper the reservoir, the greater is the force pushing water through the dam. Hydroelectric power is produced as water passes through a dam, and into a river below. The more water that passes through a dam, the more energy is produced. Once a dam is built, an artificial man-made lake is created behind the dam.The highest dam in the Unites States is located in California. The Dam rises 754 feet.
