On friday Stephanie and I watched the Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Its about a German family. The main character Bruno is an eight year old boy whose father is a German soldier in charge of a concentration camp. They move out by a camp in the beginning of the movie. Bruno had to leave all of his friends behind and was starting to get lonely at their new home. He noticed a camp from his bedroom window that he thought was a farm. There a different workers who come to Bruno's house from the camp and they all wear the "pajamas." He is constantly wondering and asking his mother about the farmers wearing "pajama." She doesn't think Bruno is old enough to comprehend what is going on and she lies to him.
One day Bruno gets tired of doing nothing so he starts to explore in the forest behind his house that seperates him from the concentration camp. When he runs a couply miles he sees a fence and on the other side is a little boy, Shmuel. At first Bruno doesn't understand that Shmuel is a jew in a concentration camp. While this is happening Bruno's father decides to get him and his sister a teacher. The teacher comes every day to teach them about current affairs. Bruno doesn't really listen because he doesn't really care he is only eight.
Bruno continously goes to see Shmuel. they become friends and Shmuel tries to explain to Bruno that the German soldiers are putting them in the camp and that the camp is not a fun place and its not just one big game. One particular time Shmuel tells Bruno that he is a jew and Bruno didn't know what to think so he left. Shmuel had become his only friend, but Shmuel is a jew, the enemy, they can't be friends. One day Shmuel tells Bruno that his father is missing, and Bruno had previously betrayed Shmuel and wanted to make it up to him. Bruno's father told him that he his mother and his sister were moving away for good. The day that they were moving Bruno goes to see Shmuel to help him find his father. Shmuel had snuck an extra pair of "pajama's" and a cap for Bruno to wear.
Bruno digs a hole under the fence, undresses from his clothes to change into the uniform, and they take off looking for Shmuel's father. When Bruno's mother notices hes missing she tells his father and they and some other German soldiers take off looking for him. They notice the window that Bruno climbed throught to get to the forest. They find his clothes and the hole and they know he went into the camp. While Bruno and Shmuel were looking for Shmuel's father they get forced in a group of men who were getting taken to the gas building where they kill jews then burn them. When Bruno's father can't find him anywhere in the camp and he sees that jews were burned he knows that Bruno was among them.
