We began class by starting off watching "Planet In Peril". The movie about overpopulation, deforestation, and species lost. I guess everything affects us some way. Then we went into the discussion of Rwanda. The people went to the Crahoe tribe and talked to them. They live on a reservation, but plenty of people are illegally robbing them. They go into the woods with their bow and arrow to try and fight them off. The crahoe rely on the rainforrest to live, shelter..food. everything. The rainforest is the world’s natural medicine chest. We need that for cancer and basically everything medically related. There forces are small so the poachers just keep coming back. About 50,000 sq. miles of the rainforest are lost every year..that's a lot.Six year old Valentine got Leukemia, and the mother just wanted answers. She thinks the pollutants of a packing plant gave her son a child. There is a study saying that kids living less then 2 miles from a plant have 56% chance of getting Leukemia. Most of the kids living near these places are Hispanic. They are calling it Environmental Racism. Hispanics do not want to have the fear of their child maybe getting Leukemia, but they do not have the money to move. The danger of the ice sheets is hard to see with the naked eye. As the artic changes polar bears could be the animals most affected by climate change. Small islands are already slipping beneath the sea. The people living on these islands have no where to go. The species are dying a thousand times the natural rate of extinction. Overpopulation, deforestation, species lost…what happens in one place is affecting us all. There were two ethnic groups..the Hutus and Tutsis. The Belgians favored the Tutsis. The Hutus wanted all of the Tutsis gone. They said that all the problems were because of the Tutsis. It was genocide. It all started form the assassination of the Rwandan President on April 6. The United States didn’t declare it genocide until years after. Clinton highly regrets not doing anything during this. He could of saved about 500,000 lives sending troops over. But that was not the situation. They think it was because of lack of racial equality. Genocide has only been declared by us not the UN.
